Step inside the Cupra Formentor and you’ll discover a plush, well-built and spacious cockpit, with seating for five. There’s ample headroom in the front and plenty of rearward travel for the seats.
Rear bench occupants have plenty of legroom and headroom, too, despite what looks like a plunging roofline from outside.
Boot space and storage
The 150hp and 245hp petrol models will carry the most luggage thanks to its more compact rear axle, with 450 litres of space. Opt for a four-wheel drive or hybrid model and this drops by varying degrees.
The Formentor E-Hybrid manages a smaller 345 litres as the 13kWh lithium-ion battery eats up the space under the boot floor. The 4Drive models drop by a much smaller amount, still offering 420 litres.
In reality, we found the Formentor a practical companion for family duties. There’s good access to the boot and we were able to drop the rear seats to create a flat boot floor that would swallow a child’s mountain bike and other clobber familiar to parents up and down the land.
It’s well thought through, although we’re not sure about the part-leather floor mats on higher-trim models. They mark easily and look scruffy really quickly in a typically muddy British winter.
Oddments storage is also impressive, more than fulfilling its role as a family-friendly SUV, with four USB-C charging sockets around the cabin, too.
Is it easy to park?
The Formentor doesn’t feel particularly bulky to pilot, but the dark cabin and thick rear pillars can give you the sensation that it’s quite difficult to see out of the back windows.
Thankfully, all models come with rear parking sensors as standard, with all models bar entry-level V1 coming with front parking sensors and a rear-view camera fitted as well.
