DS 4 Crossback boot space, practicality and safety

2015 - 2018 (change model)
Practicality rating: 3.5 out of 53.5

We’re expecting safety levels for the DS 4 Crossback to be good when it completes its round of testing.

The car comes with a plethora of airbags as standard, plus there’s a hill start system which will stop the car rolling back if you stop at the lights, a tyre pressure monitoring system to alert you if there’s something wrong with the balance of the tyres, plus ISOFIX points and child locks on the doors keep the children safe.

A new system called DS Connect Box is available as standard which includes an automatic call system used to locate the vehicle and obtain assistance in the event of an emergency or breakdown.

However there is a lack of advanced safety kit on this car, which is disappointing, and even options are limited with just front parking sensors and a blind spot monitoring system available to add.

  • Plenty of boot space on offer
  • Rear seats split individually
  • Useful storage features

DS 4 Crossback practicality levels are very good thanks to a big boot and a range of practical features on offer.

There’s 385 litres of boot space available which should prove big enough for the weekly shop or a large suitcase when you head on holiday, a 12-volt power source is ideal for charging items on the move plus there’s a removable torch and clips and elasticated straps to help secure items.

If you’re thinking of adding the upgraded sound system to your DS 4 Crossback, be aware that you’ll lose 26 litres of space when the subwoofer is fitted. If you need more luggage space, all the rear seats can be folded individually which is useful and the Crossback also comes with roof bars as standard.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to storage options up front with a fairly big illuminated glovebox, large door pockets, a centre cubbie and a drawer under the front passenger seat. There’s only one cupholder throughout the whole car though, which is disappointing.

Electric folding door mirrors and automatic lights and wipers make life easier day-to day and the reversing camera and rear parking sensors should help avoid any bumps in the car park.

There are fewer storage options in the back with just small door pockets and front seat back pockets available, there’s a 12-volt power source though which means the children will be able to charge their devices on the move.
