Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 33 - 46 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

40 mpg is easily attainable from 1.1 and 1.2 models, so diesels don’t give much extra saving; sensible service costs. Lots of first generation cars about, so second-hand prices are very competitive; 1.1 and 1.2 SX models are best value.

Generally good apart from occasional electrical problems on early cars – these have usually been sorted by now. Unusually, petrol cars are preferable to occasionally smoky and less refined diesels. Can grow tatty with age but unlikely to leave you stranded by the roadside.
