Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 35 - 62 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Running costs should be in-line with the hatchback, so parts and servicing should be reasonable. Diesel engines offer good economy, but expect residual values to be behind the hatchback.

Unlike the hatchback or estate, there’s no low emissions ECOnetic model available. However the four-door Focus is still environmentally friendly with average CO2 emissions of 152g/km. The greenest model is the 1.6 TDCi which emits 119g/km of CO2 (making it cheap to tax) and capable of 63mpg.

The previous Focus model was very reliable – just a handful of minor niggles were reported during its lifetime. There’s no reason to expect this one to be any different.
