Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 25 - 34 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Ford maintenance is not too expensive – even on the complex 2.9i 24v engine – while the fuel economy and insurance is fair. Parts are fairly pricey to replace, so inspect the Scorpio fully before buying, as cutting corners will cost you in the long run. Also, depreciation will continue to erode values steadily, but there are very few cars on the road that escape this decay, unfortunately.

Scorpio shouldn’t cause too many problems if it’s serviced properly and regularly maintained, but few garages have particular expertise in fixing Scorpios, although it may be worth a look online for owner’s clubs and enthusiast’s websites that may be able to offer practical advice in the event of any problems. Minor niggles reported include trim defects and faulty electrics in particular.
