Should you buy one?

Opting for a new model from a comparatively lesser-known brand like Genesis is made a lot easier with the advent of the electrified version of the GV70 – it feels so much more appropriate for the times we are living in than the petrol and diesel versions that preceded it.

Plenty of the brand staples that enhance the ease of ownership, such as the servicing offering, the Ionity partnership and the lack of discounts and therefore the removal of the niggling feeling that you have missed out on the best deal should all smooth the path to a new experience.

But beyond all that, the car itself is a real touch of quality. It’s not cheap, and the comfort levels could be a bit better, but it is attractive, has a high quality interior with some excellent technology and is superbly refined with the noise cancellation system and impressive without.

We’d say it’s a hard maybe. The BMW iX has a much better interior and is more comfortable, but its design is divisive in a way the GV70 Electrified’s just isn’t.

What we like

There’s loads of tech on offer and it’s broadly easy to use. The customer care Genesis is offering is comprehensive, and it certainly can smash out a quick 0-62mph time.

What we don’t like

There’s only one model to choose from and it’s expensive. We wish Genesis sold a slower, more frugal and cheaper single motor version.

Other electric SUVs have more of a wow factor, but some people may shy away from such showiness
