Parkers overall rating: 3 out of 5 3.0

Both the ESi and VTi were 1.6 litre units, the former with a creditable 125bhp which was nippy enough. The latter has 160bhp and the potential to be a real scorcher if the driver lets it have the full 8000rpm.

The front-wheel-drive set-up makes it more forgiving than some rivals and there’s plenty of grip, but the lack of roof compromises the body structure and you’ll get plenty of wobbles on a bumpy road if you push it with the roof down.
