Although the interior is not the pinnacle of luxury, it does look and feel reasonably plush. The leather upholstery should withstand the test of time, plus the wooden inlays on the dash bring a pleasant touch to the cabin. The driving position is great, allowing a commanding view of the road, and there are no major blind spots that may prove obstructive or awkward.

There is plenty of room inside the cabin – especially in the back – and the seats provide excellent support as well as cosseting comfort. On the other hand, there are a few drawbacks, such as road noise on poor surfaces – which was consequently improved in post 1996 models – and a ride that is too firm and unforgiving at lower speeds. The Legend is mechanically refined and boasts a great level of equipment as standard, but there is always a nagging feeling that it cannot quite match the superior levels of opulence offered by its luxury rivals.
