The Hyundai i10 is a small, five-door, city hatchback car that first arrived on the UK market in 2008 to win sales from the Kia Picanto, Volkswagen Fox and Ford Ka.

What gave its sales such a massive boost was the UK scrappage scheme introduced in 2009 and which lasted for more than a year. The scheme enabled anyone trading in a car more than 10 years old for a new car a combined discount of £2000 provided by the government and the car manufacturers.

The aim was to move people out of older, more polluting cars into new, cleaner models, and certainly Hyundai i10s could claim to be fuel efficient, much cleaner than older cars on the road and cheap to run. In 2011 Hyundai introduced its 1-litre, three-cylinder petrol Blue model that emitted just 99g/km of CO2 ensuring owners enjoyed tax free motoring as well as a five-year warranty.
