The Sonata scored a respectable four out of five stars in Euro NCAP tests (although there are better scoring rivals for the money). Safety kit includes six airbags, traction control and an electronic stability programme.
A 462-litre boot is reasonable for a saloon of this size and the Sonata also comes with a split/folding rear seat as standard which means larger items can be carried without sacrificing all of the rear passenger space. However the there’s no hatchback version, which limits its appeal and there’s no estate version available either. In the front there’s a twin cupholder between the front seats, a decent glovebox and good-sized door pockets.

Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
