It’s very rare that sports cars of this size and price are crash-tested by Euro NCAP, so there’s no test score. However, it comes with all the safety kit you’d expect of a car of this price, with side airbags for the driver and front passenger, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. Plus there’s a pop-up bonnet that’s designed to minimise injuries to pedestrians and pop-up rollover hoops on the convertible.

The boot space on both models is limited, especially the coupe which is shallower than you’d expect. The rear seats are also virtually useless for passengers and are better viewed as an extra storage area. It’s a slightly different story for the convertible. Once the roof has been lowered, the boot becomes smaller, but will still cope with a weekend’s luggage or half decent shopping spree – although it’s anything but cavernous.

Once stowed the roof sits totally flush with the body hidden under a hard cover.
