The SRT-8 has the same safety equipment fitted to the rest of the range. This includes airbags, stability control, traction control and a tyre pressure monitor. The SRT-8 also has run-flat tyres. A ‘roll-over mitigation’ system reduces engine power and applies a short burst of braking to the appropriate wheel if sensors detect a situation where the car might roll over.

Isofix child seat mounting points are also standard and the Grand Cherokee was awarded a four star rating by Euro NCAP.

There’s room for five adults over short distances, though the rear passengers may feel the squeeze after an hour on the road. The decent-sized boot comes with a separate opening tailgate window for easier loading (especially useful in tight multi-storey car parks), while various storage compartments in the cabin mean the Grand Cherokee is suitably practical.

The boot is big enough to take five suitcases with ease but the SRT-8 loses the potential to tow as the twin exhaust pipes exit from the centre at the rear.
