With a huge array of new systems the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT safety levels are high. The standard Grand Cherokee received an adequate four stars from Euro NCAP. As well as the regular array of airbags, including driver’s knee, full-length side-curtain, it comes with a whole host of additional safety systems. These include Trailer-sway control that reduces movement on trailer.

This helps to keep the car stable in cross winds by monitoring the movement of the car relative to the driver’s intended direction and applying pressure on a selected front wheel when braking to counteract any trailer sway. There’s also a reversing camera, blind spot detection warning and a system called Rear Cross-path detection that warns drivers, when reversing, of traffic moving towards their car.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT practicality and space is probably high on the list of priorities, if you’re considering a car like this, and it’s fair to say this big off-roader delivers. With the rear seats in place there is 782 litres of boot space on offer, the same as the standard Grand Cherokee model. That’s plenty of room for suitcases or a pushchair and the many other items that go hand-in-hand with children.

Drop the rear seats and the storage space expands to 1,554 litres. The boot lip is a little high, however, which could make lifting and getting out heavy objects difficult. This car is also capable of towing trailers with a maximum weight of 2,268kg and has a number of safety features to ensure all towing can be done in the safest possible way. The 93-litre fuel tank is going to be pricey to fill up but, despite its size, you’re likely to be returning to the forecourt pretty soon with a claimed average fuel economy of 20.1mpg.

There are the usual useful storage spaces you find in most cars including two cup holders in the front, a large central cubby for bigger items and door pockets. The door pockets are of an odd shape and it can be difficult to get your hands down into them, but they do have a specific bottle holder that’s ideal for 500ml bottles.
