Kia Sorento SUV running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
Kia Sorento running costs aren’t bad overall for an SUV of this size. The 2.4-litre petrol is mediocre returning an average of 33.2mpg, but it’s the diesel that makes most sense in the line-up. The pick of the crop is the two-wheel-drive manual that returns 43.5mpg, but the four-wheel-drive isn’t far behind on 42.2mpg. The autos both return around 38mpg. You’ll shell out quite a bit for insurance though: the petrol is in group 20 while the diesels range from group 24-29.
Kia Sorento emissions aren’t class-leading, but they’re not the highest in the world either. The lowest emitting Sorento is the 2.2-litre two-wheel drive manual diesel at 171g/km, closely followed by the four-wheel drive manual diesels that emit 177g/km. The two-wheel-drive auto emits 192g/km and the four-wheel drive auto emits 194g/km. The petrol emits 203g/km.
You shouldn’t have much to worry about regarding Kia Sorento reliability. If Kia’s seven-year/100,000-mile warranty isn’t enough to give you a bit of peace of mind, then not much else will. The warranty covers every major part except consumables such as clutch plates, brakes and tyres. The warranty is also supported by a 12-year anti-perforation policy.
