What are the running costs?
Running costs vary wildly depending on where you choose to charge. Generally speaking plugging in at your address via a home charger will offer the cheapest rates, while the most expensive will be via a rapid charge found at a service station.
Range and charging
The 350e version claims the highest WLTP driving range, too; 353 miles for those on 18-inch wheels or 316 miles for models on 20-inch wheels. For the 500e model, Lexus says it’s capable of 311 or 283 miles respectively. Choose the top-level 550e F Sport (which is only available with 20-inch wheels) and Lexus says you can achieve a 280-mile e-range.
More than before, we’re inclined to believe these range figures are possible given the tangible improvements in efficiency. Our real-world test runs netted roughly 3.8 to 3.9 miles per kWh regardless of powertrain option on a mix of motorway, country roads and urban town driving. That’s a lot better than the pre-facelift RZ.
As for charging, Lexus says all models now come with a 22kW AC charger allowing for relatively speedy charges on home chargers – so long as your home wallbox is capable of it – and 150kW DC charging.
Servicing and warranty
The RZ is eligible for Lexus’ 10-year/100,000-mile Relax warranty. This comprises an initial three-year warranty, followed by up to a further seven years of service-activated warranty if you remain within the dealer network. For the first three years of the car’s life, owners can have it serviced at a place of their choice.
When the new car warranty period expires, drivers can benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) warranty when their vehicle has a qualifying service at an authorised Lexus workshop. The limit is 10 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Lexus is also confident about the longevity of its batteries, with the firm expecting them to retain around 90% capacity after 10 years.
