ABS with electronic brake force distribution is standard across the range, other traction and stability aids are standard on TS2 and Sport models. Other than that, a load of airbags and safety features come with the entry level car, including intrusion-minimising pedals. Revised models from mid-2005 also come with anti-whiplash injury safety features.
Alarm is standard, as are Isofix child seat mountings on the outer rear seats. Audible and visible seatbelt warning added for the rear seats from mid-2005.
The Mazda6 hatchback offers at least 500 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place. Numerous storage compartments throughout the cabin. Dashboard top storage cubby had an awkward opening mechanism which was improved on cars from mid-2005.
