Meanwhile, the CLK coupé comes with front and side airbags, ABS, traction control, and an alarm and immobiliser all as standard – though a tracker device might be advisable for added security.

When the vehicle travels over 5mph, the doors, boot and fuel flap all automatically lock, characterising the thoughtful ingenuity of the CLK coupé. The two-door design can make rear access a little awkward at times, but it shouldn’t cause too many domestic quarrels, and the boot is spacious enough for the average family’s suitcases.
