Structural integrity is a given and there’s plenty of safety features including ABS, driver, passenger and side airbags and traction control. Security is a different matter. Yes there’s an alarm, immobiliser and visible VIN, but it lacks deadlocks (for safety reasons) and, as it’s desirable to thieves, should be fitted with extra Thatcham-approved equipment and even a tracking system for peace of mind.

The E Class estate is absolutely massive in terms of the carrying space it offers. If you can’t fit what you need in here then get a van as there is not much that is bigger unless you can stretch to a newer model.
