Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 29 - 52 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Make sure you get a good discount to off-set depreciation as much as possible. Fuel costs are actually quite low given the performance on offer and servicing and part costs are reasonable too. Insurance rates are generally low for what aspires to be a sporty car, but the 180 is a little pricey to insure.

ZS is relatively green and easy on the environment. With an average of 180 g/km CO2 across the model line-up, its emissions are quite low for a medium-sized saloon. The range is also fairly economical, averaging 39 mpg.

1.8 K-Series has a reputation for weak head gaskets on some models. Those models affected tend to fail before the engine has done 50,000 miles – so the 60,000 mile warranty should provide reassurance. Other than niggles it should prove generally reliable.
