Mitsubishi Colt CZC boot space, practicality and safety
The standard Colt hatchback has a decent four-star Euro NCAP crash test score for occupant protection, so the CZC should be as good. It has heavily reinforced windscreen pillars and doors, so Mitsubishi says it doesn’t need rear rollover bars. There are also twin front and side airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. Turbo models get stability control.
Because the boot needs to swallow a large roof, there’s a bit of a bulge at the back which looks ungainly – but this isn’t unusual with this type of car. There’s good boot space with the roof up with 460 litres – that’s more than Peugeot 407. The roof itself retracts in around 20 seconds which is average for an folding metal roof, but doing so sees boot space cut to just 190 litres – less than a Ford Ka.
The rear seats are tiny and no good for passengers – even children – but they are useful as extra luggage space.
