The Koleos scored a maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests along with an impressive four stars for child protection. Every Koleos comes with twin front, side and curtain airbags but it’s disappointing the Dynamique models don’t have standard ESP like the rest of the range. However there are Isofix mounting points for two child seats in the rear of all versions.
Renault’s vast experience with people carriers shows in the Koleos. The rear seats split 60/40 and fold flat into the load floor at the tug of a lever placed just inside the rear tailgate in most models. A split tailgate, with a glass upper and fold-down lower section adds to the Renault’s versatility. The boot is a decent size and the load area wide, but with 450 litres of luggage room it trails behind the Nissan X-Trail which boasts more than 600 litres.
On the plus side there are plenty of storage areas in the cabin including a large cooled glovebox and a centre console with a removable bin. There is also a drawer beneath the passenger seat while bins in the lower section of the front doors can take a 500ml bottle. Rear passengers will find two lidded compartments beneath their feet plus fold out tables with cupholders.
Euro NCAP Rating
The Renault Koleos (08-10) was tested by Euro NCAP in and received the following safety ratings:
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
