Renault Laguna Hatchback (07-12) - rated 3 out of 5

The Renault Laguna first appeared in 1994 and was a family-focused five-door hatchback aiming to take on the established mainstream rivals of the time, the Ford Mondeo and the Vauxhall Vectra.

The Laguna replaced the ageing 21 and was first launched in hatchback form with the Renault Laguna Estate following a year later.

The Laguna represent not only great value, it came with a lot more kit as standard than the outgoing 21, but provide a stylish alternative to its rivals.

To help promote the new car, a race version of the Laguna was entered into the British Touring Car Championship where it campaigned several seasons in the 1990s. Indeed, in 1997 a Renault Laguna took Swiss driver Alain Menu to the overall championship title.
