Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 36 - 80 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

As long as you secure a decent discount when buying new, a Megane Coupe should prove relatively cheap to run. The 1.5-litre diesels offer 60mpg-plus fuel economy as well as low road tax, while the larger diesel have performance to match the looks combined with good fuel economy. Insurance groups are also low.

There is a wide choice of low CO2 emissions models in the Megane Coupe range, while even the high performance versions (both petrol and diesel) can be chosen with a clear conscience.

Owners of the previous Megane might well have been let down by the car’s reliability, but Renault has committed to improving reliability and becoming a market leader for customer satisfaction. The Megane Coupe should be much better than Renaults of the recent past, but Parker’s remains cautious until cars have spent enough time on the roads to demonstrate improvements.
