Parkers overall rating: 4 out of 5 4.0

The 1.8 litre K series is prone to gasket failure. The 2.0 litre V6 although smooth is rather thirsty for the performance it delivers. Its replacement unit (introduced in 2002), the 1.8 Turbo offers the same performance but better economy. There is also a 2.5 V6 and a Ford sourced 4.6 litre V8 introduced late in 20003 which transforms the car into a bargain Bentley – fantastic.

It’s not a sporting exec in the mould of the BMW 3-Series but offers a very cosseting ride which really does the job if you’re after comfort – all models are front wheel driven except range topping V8 which smokes its back tyres.
