SEAT Alhambra PARKERS review

When the SEAT Alhambra arrived alongside the Ford Galaxy and VW Sharan in 1996 the only differences were the prices, equipment, engines and badges.

That made the Alhambra a great way to own a spectacular people carrier and save money at the same time - it offered all the space, ability and practicality of its more expensive MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicles) brothers, but for less money.

The best petrol engine was the 1.8-litre, 150bhp unit borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf and Passat.

Despite the size, you could get from 0-60mph in just over 11 seconds, with a fuel economy comparable to the non-turbocharged 2.0 engine.

Although one of the better handling MPVs on sale at the time, it wasn’t exactly sporty. However, it was easy to drive, comfortable and offered decent views out.
