A clear logic to the controls, with chunky heating and ventilation dials and an easy-to-use stereo – similar in style to other VW and Audi products, but with less concern for looking stylish. End result is pleasingly simplistic yet ideally placed. Good driving position with decent seats and well-placed pedals. Good forward and rear visibility.

Fabia has a simple, but elegant interior (with the exception of a few models with questionable seat fabrics). Comfort levels approach that of cars the next size up with space enough in the back for adults and a level of ride refinement other superminis rarely match. Simple interior uses high quality materials and is attractive in a functional way. Roomier than Volkswagen’s own Polo, on which it’s based.
