Vauxhall Vectra Saloon engines, drive and performance
2002 - 2005
(change model)
The saloon shares the same line up of engines as the hatchback, so that means there’s a wide range of petrols and diesels. They’ve made the new Vectra longer and heavier, but didn’t account for the effect on the engines of the extra weight. They don’t have the confident pull of the Ford, VW or Honda rivals in this class.
Handling and steering aren’t up to the pace of class-leaders like the Ford Mondeo, Honda Accord and Mazda6, but it isn’t far behind. It’s a tidy drive, although you may find it less enjoyable on twisty roads. However, Vectra is built to be a motorway pounder, and this with aplomb: a well cushioned ride, well weighted steering and cruise control as standard.
