Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life Estate (2008 - 2010) practicality
The Caddy was awarded four stars out of five for adult occupant protection in official Euro NCAP crash tests. This is a reasonable score but many people carriers have achieved the full five star rating. Anti-lock braking with electronic brake force distribution is fitted across the range, along with driver, front passenger and side airbags. Also standard are a traction control system plus child locks are fitted to each sliding door.
Remote central locking with deadlocks is also standard.
Seven seats arranged in three rows and generous luggage space give the Maxi Life all it needs to tick this box. With all the seats in use, the extra length over the standard Caddy provides a luggage capacity of 380 litres under the luggage cover - that's more than a Golf hatchback. Remove the rearmost seat – admittedly a relatively heavy task – and five-seater volume rises to an impressive 1,350 litres.
With the centre seats folded forward, the 4.2-metre interior provides maximum volume of 3,700 litres to roof height, making the car very practical indeed. Significantly, twin sliding doors make exit and access easy from the second and third row seats, even when other vehicles are parked alongside.
