1050 is gutless and 1300 is underpowered; both are no fun to drive; 8V GTi lacks grunt, but has adequate performance none the less; 1800 16V is one of the best hot hatches ever; Rallye 160 is rare, but potent with Rally derived engine.

16V GTi fantastic and better than the MK3 successor; light, agile and great fun to drive; the chassis is well sorted and the brakes provide plenty of stopping power; don’t expect the same from disappointing 1050 and 1300 model, though.
