Sold between 1998 and 2005, the Volkswagen Lupo was small car based on shortened Polo underpinnings.
In fact, it was a badge-engineered VW version of the SEAT Arosa, sharing its platform and dimensions.
The Lupo was comparatively light so the comprehensive engine line-up has an easier job of delivering half decent performance.
Starting the range was a 1.0-litre petrol which did the job around town but was not up to much on the motorway. Three 1.4-litre engines including 75bhp and 100bhp petrols, and a 75bhp diesel made a bit more sense for anyone mixing town and faster roads.
