Volkswagen Passat Saloon boot space, practicality and safety

1988 - 1997 (change model)
Practicality rating: 5 out of 55.0

All models are reassuringly solid. ABS was standard on high performance models and optional on most others. Airbags are available on some early models and were fitted to both driver and passenger sides from 1994 onwards. An immobiliser was fitted to most models but security is generally not a strength.

Boot capacity is very generous on both saloon and estate models. Rear seats split and fold increasing carrying capacity to that which rivals a van in the estate version. Most are fitted with roof bars as standard too further increasing the potential for practicality.
