Previously the Touran achieved the maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP tests and this version is expected to match this when tested. It has the obligatory ABS system complete with hydraulic brake assist, which applies the brakes automatically when the car comes to a stop. It also gets stability control, airbags for driver and front passenger (the latter can be deactivated for child seats), a curtain airbag system for front and second row passengers and whip-lash optimised head restraints that aim to reduce whiplash in case of a crash.

Thanks to its car-like five-door configuration the Touran is easy to access while the large rear hatch means loading things into the back is pretty simple. There’s a maximum of 35 storage areas in the cabin of the Touran (depending on configuration). The middle row of seats slide forwards and backwards, fold down or can be completely removed. While the middle seat can also be used as a table, complete with cup holders.

With seven seats in use, the load area is 121 litres, fold the rear seats down and you get 695 litres of space, while removing the middle seats gives you 1,913 litres. Although sold as a seven-seater, the Touran can be ordered with the rear-most seats deleted. In this case if the middle row is removed you get the maximum 1,989 litres of storage space.
