  • Summary

What does this car say about you?

I like a showy car? But to me it's an excellent drivers car that looks fantastic from the rear 3/4 view, that costs less than some inferior alternatives and it's nice to say it's designed and made in the UK.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

The Jaguar image provokes some reactions in people e.g. "how old are you?" . "he's got a jag" "you only got the one?" "nice wood". I tell them it's more high end Scandinavian design than grannies furniture. They are surprised I did not buy another Merc/BMW. When I tell them this is better and I had no emotional draw to a Merc they are silent. Usually these are people that don't know much about cars.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. Deleting the standard fold down seats from the face lift though is a big mistake.

What are you likely to buy next?

Who knows but the change from BMWs has been worth it.

    September 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes the perfect spec price model colour combination at a low price from a dealer.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Excellent, but I travelled to find a good dealer the one nearest my house score zero from 3 visits.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Massively better than my old 530d. I was sold on it from driving it. It does both fast and slow very well. In town it's so smooth for a diesel, it's always deceptively fast. Nice smooth oily steering, loads of grip (much more than you expect or need) and a ride that's firm but ok even on the worst roads. This final point was crucial to me.

    What's it like to park?

I can now understand the reversing camera where it shows the trajectory of the wheels and width of car including mirrors, you need to trust it, the camera view is quite wide . I'd also say it helps to have the front ones until you know the cars extremes. it is a long car. I've not had any problems but the parking sensors make the constant beep when there is a foot of space between the car and object. This leaves you adding a foot on or needing bigger parking spaces when parallel parking .

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

No but I'm very fussy so a I had the dealer look at couple of faint noises. They did this without quibble and its perfect now.

What's most practical about your car?

Folding seats, a big boot although entry not massive make it fairly practial. It's roomy, I'm 6 3 and can sit in the back and get comfortable in the front. The seats follow more the Volvo model, they don't try to clamp your shoulders they try to support your spine and in between your shoulder blades. Sports seat backs never fit my shoulders so this is good. The driving position has lots of adjustment.
