In their own words

Imo better than a defender, and won't break the bank - much more comfortable, drives way better on road and just as capable off road (99% of the time). Handling is surprinsgly good with ACE and rear airbags... Reliability can be an issue if not looked after, and there are known issues that you probably need to check out before or after you buy. Oil pump bolt coming loose and causing damage to inside of engine in earlier models is a big one (it happened to me about a week before I planned to replace the bolt!)

How reliable do you find the car?

I've owned two discovery td5s since 2012, the first never had any problems until it failed MOT die to corrosion on rear chassis (common). My second (from 2016) has needed a bit of work over the years, nearly all of which I've done myself (replacing air suspension bags, ACE block, steering rods etc). Parts are usually cheap enough and if you have some mechanical experience and the time it's not too expensive to keep these going. Engine did fail two years ago (oil pump bolt came loose and cylinders ran dry) but I bought a used one for £400 which I fitted myself, and is currently running strong.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Great off road, towing and excellent storage
