The Audi A6 gained a maximum star rating for occupant protection in official European crash tests and comes with a great deal of safety features as standard. Traction control, electronic stability control (which helps the driver regain control during a skid) and active head restraints (which reduce the risk of 'whiplash' injury) are fitted as standard.
Six airbags (twin front, side and curtain airbags) are also standard.
The E-Class estate offers more volume than A6 Avant, but unless you regularly carry huge amounts of gear, you're unlikely to be left wanting with the cavernous Avant. The boot has plenty of scope for fitting dividers and securing load nets to ensure everything is held in place. Capacity is 565 litres with the rear seats in place up to window height and 1660 litres up to roof height with the rear seats folded.

These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
