Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 28 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

In real-world driving you’ll be lucky to get 20mpg, particularly if you take advantage of all the performance the BMW M6 offers.

Running costs will be high right across the board. BMW’s servicing costs are not cheap and neither are any replacement parts should something go wrong.

The previous M6 was considerably worse but even this greener model puts out 231g/km. Not a car to take to the annual Greenpeace get-together.

Bulletproof fit and finish is a given – if you do get rattles inside your M6 you will have been very unlucky.

The V8 engine has seen action in the M5 and has proved robust – mechanical problems should be few and far between.
