Low-deposit hatchbacks

  • Our pick of hatchbacks available for small deposits
  • Many competitive PCP deals are available
  • Monthly payments from as little as £138

The way we buy cars has changed.

Saving cash to buy outright or heading to the bank to get a loan seems to be a thing of the past these days. Today we prefer the convenience of paying for our belongings on a monthly basis.

Although historically having a small deposit meant large monthly payments and high-percentage APRs, today’s batch of PCP deals buck this trend. Deposits can be flexible, and some deals mean you can even leave the dealership in a new set of wheels without paying a penny up front.

To help you find a low-deposit deal, we’ve had a look at what’s on offer today and what you could get with £1,000 in the bank.

If you’re considering buying a new car on finance, make sure you visit our finance section for a quote - we work with more than 20 lenders to give our customers access to over 100 different lending options.

Nissan Micra

The fourth-generation Nissan Micra is something of a left-field choice rather than the default Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.

It may not be the last word in refinement or build quality, however its low pricing and insurance bandings, practical features and spacious cabin make it an ideal choice for many UK car buyers.

When it comes to PCP finance, Nissan offers flexible and low-deposit deals that result in monthly payments of £150 a month, making the Micra one of the most affordable hatchbacks you can buy. Just remember it'll be replaced early in 2017.

Suzuki Swift

Zero-percent APR and non-deposit deals do exist together but they can be difficult to find. We’ve managed to unearth this offer for the Suzuki Swift, and because of the low cost, we’ve picked a higher-trimmed version so it’s also the best-equipped of our list here.

You could get the Swift’s little brother, the Celerio, for less per month, but we think the Swift offers the better all-round package thanks to its low running costs, practical cabin and generous levels of equipment.

Parkers rating:  4 stars

Hyundai i20

Hyundai has done much to change its image recently and become a less bargain-basement choice. The i20 is a capable and practical all-rounder that feels at home in the city. Its bland styling and simplistic cabin are unlikely to pull at the heartstrings, though.

Equipment for SE specification cars include with electric windows front and rear, 15-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity.

You’ve got flexibility when it comes to deposit; here we've chosen to pay £150 up front which keeps monthly payments well below £200 a month.

Parkers rating:  4 stars

New price range: £9,995 - £17,700

Current offer on SE 1.2

Deposit: £150

APR: 6.9 percent

Monthly cost: £186.29 (optional final balloon payment £3,308, 48 months)*

Mazda 2

Arguably one of the most stylish small hatchbacks you can buy, the Mazda 2 is also offered on a 37-month PCP deal with zero-percent APR and no deposit up front.

Featuring lots of equipment as standard, it’s the 1.5-litre petrol that steals the show here. Impressively smooth and refined, even the lower-powered version proves versatile enough for everyday life and because of the car's lightweight design, running costs are very low too.

Parkers rating:  4.5 stars

New price range: £12,495 - £18,735

Current offer on 75ps SE

Deposit: £0

APR: zero percent

Monthly cost: £233 (optional final balloon payment £4,010, 37 months)*
