2021’s been another strange year, but despite the ongoing pandemic, a global microchip shortage and sales being up and down like a seesaw car manufacturers have had plenty to do.

And if car manufacturers have plenty to do, so do the Parkers team! We’ve been hard at work all year reporting on, driving and reviewing the latest cars as well as making sure you have the best consumer advice at your fingertips. But we’re only human, so we’ve also been having some fun along the way.

The @ParkersCars Twitter feed is one of the best ways to keep up with what’s going on in the world of motoring, and here’s what you thought were our best posts of the year.

January

In January, while steadfastly working from home we got so bored of our daily Teams meetings that we had, er, another Teams meeting. Except this time, we put it on YouTube.

In the wake of Renault announcing a reborn electric version of its iconic Renault 5, we asked each other what motoring legends we thought could use a brand-new, battery-powered renaissance. With suggestions ranging from an all-wheel drive Lancia Delta to a new convertible Peugeot, it makes for interesting viewing…

February

The shortest month of the year proved so short on real car news that our most popular post was a terrible joke about baked beans.

Look, there’s nothing in our contracts that says we have to make sense all the time…

March

In March we got back to doing real work, and the Tweet you liked the most was our long-term Ford Ranger Raptor truck meeting its very beefiest sibling from the Transit family – the Transit Trail.

The Ranger Raptor’s proved such a remarkable companion that we’ve still got the keys. You can read what Vans Editor CJ Hubbard’s making of his (very) extended test drive here.

April

Back to the boring business of cars for the month of April, and this was our first chance to spend some time with what would eventually become not just our Large Electric Car of the Year, but our overall Car of the Year award-winner.

The Skoda Enyaq iV impressed us in pre-production form and we stayed on a high after driving the full production model you see here. With a spacious interior, great drive and a super-long range, all available at reasonable prices, it’s a cracking car and a deserving winner. You can read our full review of the Enyaq iV here.

May

Another month, another cool new van. Land Rover’s reborn Defender launching in commercial-friendly Hard Top form proved too much for our Twitter audience to resist.

It’s fair to say we were quite smitten with it, too, as there’s almost nothing better for crossing the roughest terrain in sumptuous comfort. And it’s just so, SO cool.

June

Everyone loves a Volkswagen bus so perhaps it’s no surprise that the unveil of the Volkswagen Multivan was our most popular post in June.

We’ve since driven the Multivan – you can read the review here – and look forward to putting it through its paces on UK roads to see if it’s a worthy replacement for both the Sharan MPV and the Transporter-based Caravelle.

July

The middle of summer and a convertible roadster to enjoy. We really lucked out with this test car booking – the Mazda MX-5 isn’t just any soft-top, after all, it’s one of our favourite cars full stop.

We asked whether any other cars have consistently improved with each generation but maintained the soul of the original, and we’re not totally sure that any have…

August

Proving that not all interaction has to have a positive spin, we asked you whether you liked the Porsche Macan before or after its mid-life facelift.

The result? Well, it seems new isn’t always better – not that many of you thought the Macan was particularly attractive in the first place.

September

Awards season, and our most popular post was the announcement of the Parkers Car of the Year.

As we mentioned earlier, the Skoda Enyaq iV took the top spot for overall winner, but plenty of other very deserving cars also picked up gongs – you can see all the award-winners here.

October

Over the year, shots posted from the Parkers archive have performed better than almost anything else – you folks just have an appetite for the motoring of yesteryear.

This particularly tasty Ford Fiesta was our best performing post for October. Unsurprising, given how popular a car it was in its day – and remains so even in 2021.

November

You can’t really go wrong with the burble of a V8 engine, and we were lucky enough to have two in at the same time during November.

Bodacious though the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 is, it was totally outclassed here by the mighty Ford Mustang Mach 1. And our neighbours are still talking to us, so they must have liked it too.

December

We round off the year on a high with an Audi 100, again from the Parkers archive. Our followers seemed as fond of this one as we were – perhaps hankering for the days before the default family car was a compact SUV.

The 100 Avant’s long, low lines, slim pillars and unadorned styling certainly provided a nice dose of nostalgia for us to round off the year on one of our last days ‘in the office’.

So that was 2021. Make sure you’re following us @ParkersCars on Twitter, as well as Facebook and Instagram to ensure you never miss a post from us.

We’ll continue bringing you the latest and best car news, reviews and advice into 2022 and beyond.
