Welcome back to Lease of the Week, our series where we showcase the best car leasing deals on the web. Each week I choose one car with some tasty monthly costs attached and break down why it’s so good.
Our last deal was for the Peugeot e-5008, a seven-seater that drew it appeal from exceptionally good leasing deals and not a lot more. This week it’s a different kettle of fish, a family SUV we rate rather highly.
A price as little as £249 per month usually nets a nice and sensible Kia Sportage or stylish but flawed Peugeot 3008. Comparatively the Cupra blends sensible touches sure to be a hit with families (namely cabin and boot space) with a stylish interior and distinctive looks.
As for leasing rates, the best value is reserved for entry-level examples, called V1. They’ll be a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrids partnered to a seven-speed DCT gearbox, spritely enough but no performance car. Equipment levels are good for the price too with a heated steering wheel, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, and keyless entry and start all standard fit. The cheapest example at the time of writing for a V1 Terramar was £249.27 per month with an initial rental of £2,991.24.
Competition is huge with £250 per month to spend, especially for family-friendly SUVs. As well as the Kia Sportage and Peugeot 3008 mentioned above, there’s the gargantuan Skoda Kodiaq vying for your money, two very good cars for the cash. It can't match the style of the Cupra, but compensates with a boot size that puts almost all cars to shame.
If you’re after a bit more plushness, V2 examples offer heated front seats, a top-view camera, head-up display and all the equipment seen on a V1 for roughly an extra £50 per month, pitting it north of £300 per month. The excellent eHybrid models with its plug-in hybrid system bump the price up substantially to nearly £400 per month. A pity as this hybrid system is good and helps make the Terramar frugal to run.
The Ford Kuga is nicer to drive for the same price as a base-spec Terramar. It’s an aging car though, and there’ll be no hybrid assistance available for this price.
