Welcome to another edition of Lease of the Week, where I handpick one car with exceptional leasing deals available. I closely study the leasing market, looking for the best new car deals, and have found a premium electric car for a similar monthly fee as a mid-sized family SUV.

Last week, I was swooned by the old-school charm of the Volkswagen T-Roc, a car with no electrification at all, a spacious and (mostly) logical interior, and affordable monthly fees. This week, I’m switching things up and going for something affordable but so zany that it may as well be from Mars.

From £251 per month

Hyundai's range of EVs all manage to stand out from the crowd. The Ioniq 5 and recently launched Inster have head-turning looks, but there's something even more eye-catching about the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the brand's streamlined electric saloon.

Hyundai also has some of the best battery tech in the business. All examples sold in the UK are fitted with a 77kWh battery pack that'll achieve 300 miles on a single charge with sensible driving and benefit from super-quick 800-volt charging. There's also V2L technology, which means you can use the car to charge other things, including your home and other EVs.

It hasn't made the same splash as the popular Ioniq 5 and rapid Ioniq 5 N, but these fantastic leasing rates should help make it more tempting.

The cheapest examples are in Premium trim, which is the entry-level Ioniq 6 and packed with useful gadgets and gear including heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, and a heat pump to aid in efficiency.

A Hyundai Ioniq 6 in Premium trim starts at £250.78 per month to lease, with an initial rental fee of £3,009.36 on a two-year contract with a 5,000 mile per year limit. To put the value into perspective, this price point will typically net you a mid-spec Ford Kuga or Skoda Karoq, a far cry from the executive Ioniq 6.

For a few extra quid per month, there's the Ioniq 6 Ultimate. Along with all the clobber found in the Premium, there's also a Bose sound system, sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a head-up display. It's a £50,000 car available for less than £300 per month.

The obvious Ioniq 6 rival is the excellent BMW i4, which also happens to be good value for money to lease. Still, it'll be at least £100 per month more than the electric Hyundai. It's nicer to drive and more conventional looking, but that price difference is impossible to ignore.

There's also the BYD Seal, an EV snapping at the Ioniq's heels for value but doesn't have the interior space to rival the Hyundai.
