MG Motor UK is offering private buyers of its electric MG4 and MG S5 EV models an additional £1,500 discount in anticipation of the Government’s revised Electric Car Grant scheme, which MG is unlikely to qualify for. The Chinese-owned brand says this move underlines its commitment to affordability.
The discount is effective immediately and is available to all private buyers, on top of any existing dealer incentives already in place. It applies to all variants of the MG4 EV hatchback and MG S5 SUV, two of the UK’s bestselling electric models thanks to their blend of usable driving range and competitive pricing.
The news comes as the Government’s updated grant scheme refocuses support on a narrower range of EVs. These are unlikely to include any Chinese-built models, such as the 4 and S5 EVs. MG’s move ensures customers don’t lose out while that scheme takes shape, and signals the brand’s desire to stay at the forefront of affordable electric car ownership in the UK.
MG’s Commercial Director Guy Pigounakis said: ‘MG has been a key contributor to the EV sector, consistently recognising the economic and environmental benefits of introducing a wide range of affordable, electric-only models. Today’s announcement underlines this commitment and in addition to this, we will also seek to work constructively with the Government to further increase the sale of EVs.’

If you’re shopping for a new electric car, MG just made the decision a little easier. A £1,500 discount on cars that are already well priced brings real-world monthly costs down, especially on a finance deal.
This move is particularly welcome given the uncertainty around who qualifies for the Government’s EV grant. MG buyers don’t have to wait or wonder, the money’s there today.

MG’s been one of the brands genuinely making EVs accessible to ordinary buyers, undercutting more mainstream European rivals, and making inroads into the market as a result. A £1,500 saving on top of any dealer offers is exactly what this end of the market needs – simple, upfront support that cuts your monthly payments. If you’re already setting up a deal, make sure you receive this additional discount and it’s fully reflected in a reduced monthly payment if you’re financing it.
Any price cut is a welcome break for consumers, but be aware that as the industry is pressured into offering lower prices that there will be a knock on effect to future resale values.
