Volvo launches £1,500 grant for EX30 electric SUV buyers

Volvo has launched a £1,500 grant for the EX30 EV, giving buyers an instant saving while Government eligibility is still under review.

Volvo has launched a £1,500 grant for private buyers of its popular EX30 entry level electric car. The offer applies to all versions of the EX30 and is available immediately through Volvo dealers and the firm’s website.

This is a self-funded initiative from Volvo, introduced while the company awaits confirmation on whether the EX30 qualifies for the Government’s recently announced Electric Car Grant. It means buyers can benefit from a saving now, rather than waiting for eligibility to be confirmed.

The EX30 is Volvo’s smallest and most affordable EV to date, priced from less than £32,000 before the new discount. Built on a bespoke pure-electric platform, it combines Scandinavian design with recycled materials, smart packaging and a focus on safety — all while delivering the lowest CO2 emissions of any Volvo so far. It’s an interesting car, but not without its issues (see comment below).

Rob Deane, Commercial Director at Volvo, said: ‘It is fantastic to see a strong surge in media attention and customer demand towards EV ownership since the Government’s announcement. The multi award-winning Volvo EX30 is a fantastic product, which doesn’t compromise between design, safety or sustainability, and we are delighted to be able to offer this enhanced EV offer for Volvo customers.’

What this means for you

If you’re considering going electric, this £1,500 discount makes the EX30 more tempting. It’s already one of the most competitively priced premium EVs, and this latest offer helps close the gap to value-focused rivals such as the MG4 EV and Smart #1.

You don’t need to wait for the Government scheme to confirm eligibility – this grant is live now and applies to all EX30 models. That includes orders placed online or through your local Volvo retailer.

With strong monthly PCP deals already available and Volvo’s reputation for safety and dealer support, this could be the nudge you need to take the plunge into EV ownership.

Editor’s view: A bit of discount for a bit of premium

Firstly, the number of discounts being offered as a result of the announcement of the government grant has been impressive. Either by accident or design the govenment has seen prices tumble without – so far – spending a penny of taxpayers’ money. Impressive. Secondly, we’re keeping track of these changes on a new A-Z listings of government EV grants and manufacturer discounts page.

Seeing Volvo enter the fray has been interesting. The EX30 is one of the smartest new EVs on sale, and I really like it despite the flaws. It looks great, drives well and brings a lot of premium feel without the eye-watering price tag. Yes, it’s way too reliant on the touchscreen for many of the car’s functions, but voice control can take over most of the traditional functions once you’re used to it.

This grant is classic Volvo: low-key but customer-focused. It means you don’t have to second-guess what’s going on with the Government scheme – the saving is real, right now, and easy to apply.

If I were shopping for a stylish small EV with decent range and a strong brand behind it, this would absolutely be on my shortlist. The £1,500 just sweetens the deal, and you can find out more on Volvo’s own website. Here, you can catch up with all carmakers offering EV discounts.
