Should you buy one?

We may have given the Citroen C4 Cactus a modest star rating, but it’s a genuinely likeable car, packed with character. If you can live with its flaws, it is easy to live with, and offers great fuel efficiency, perky performance, and an astonishing level of ride comfort for a car in this market sector.

It’s roomy, too, with a light, airy cabin that’s a nice place to spend time in. We’re still dead against its touchscreen infotainment system, which needlessly controls the climate control system without the benefit of any physical controls to back it up.

In short, it’s a Marmite car. You’ll either love it for its soft ride, clever design and innovative styling, or you’ll hate it for its seemingly vague handling, annoying interior controls, and lack of solid Germanic feel inside. We’ll understand anyone who chooses a more conventional rival over such an interesting family hatchback.
