This is one of the safest cars on the road for occupants and was the first to achieve four stars for pedestrian protection thanks to its pop-up bonnet. Sensors behind the front bumper detect if something or someone has been hit and triggers the bonnet which will pop up by 65mm at the base of the windscreen providing a cushioning effect. The C6 also scores well in other areas with nine airbags as standard and electronic stability programme.
Top models are fitted with Citroën’s lane departure warning system which alerts drowsy drivers with vibrating pulses through the seat if you cross the white lines on the road without indicating.
While the interior is impressively roomy, the boot is only adequate. It appears spacious enough, but at 488 litres (470 litres with the Lounge Pack specified) it’s small compared to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Audi A6, which both offer in excess of 500 litres. Cabin storage space is good, though, with a generous glove compartment, a large cubby in the front armrest and most impressively four enormous door bins with sliding covers.
Be aware though that the rear seats don’t fold flat where the Lounge Pack is fitted.

Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe. These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
