Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 18 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

If you need to ask what a Ferrari F12berlinetta’s running costs are then you probably can’t afford one. Use that throttle hard and you’ll be in single figure fuel economy before you know it. For those light of right foot you may get close to the official figures of nearly 19mpg but the restraint required is enormous.

It does have a large tank but even with a mix of driving you won’t see much more than 350 miles to a tank.

This is a sophisticated, high performance supercar with a lot of trick tech. But with that said, running costs aren’t going to be too over-the-top compared to rivals thanks to warranty and service plan deals as laid out below, which should avoid any nasty surprises at least for the first part of your time with the car. Best bet is to head for franchised Ferrari dealerships with fully trained technicians or a specialist independent with a strong reputation.

Again unlikely to be a strong suit but Ferrari F12berlinetta emissions are lower than the outgoing model it replaces, the 599 GTB.

With emissions of 350g/km of CO2 it still sits in the highest tax band so at 2015/16 rates you’ll pay £1,100 for the first year then £505 annually. The emissions figure is based on the car being fitted with the HELE system (High Emotion Low Emissions) that reduces emissions.

The Italian company has made major strides to address reliability issues on previous models and to improve the lifespan of such consumables as clutches and gearboxes.

Providing you ensure you book the car in for regular services with a knowledgeable expert garage, then Ferrari F12 reliability should prove robust. Remember this is a high-performance car and it you use that performance on track days then careful following of the service schedule is essential.

The Italian company believes it is the most comprehensive service of any currently on the market.
