There’s great visibility through the deep front screen and the driving position is good too. The seat is adjustable on most models, as is steering wheel tilt adjustment (though reach adjustment is rapidly becoming the norm on newer rivals). The gearlever is mounted high-up making it easy to use – especially around town. All the controls are well laid out and big buttons for the stereo and heating make using them on the move simple.

Comfort

A huge improvement over older Fiestas – the taller shape of this model lent itself to more head room plus legroom in the back is much improved. However it’s still lacking in interior space when compared to other small rivals such as the Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio and Fiat Grande Punto. Road and wind noise are kept to a minimum, but the sound of the engine can often be quite invasive.

The diesel does better, however and is a smart choice for motorway driving.
