The 1.1-litre engine makes 62bhp which is a good deal more than the old 1.0-litre model (which ran from 2000-2003) had. With a five speed manual gearbox, it can do 0-62mph in 15.2 seconds and reach 91mph flat out – more than enough for town driving and it will just about hold it’s own on occasional motorway trips. The optional automatic gearbox slows it down significantly, although it’s still quicker than a Chevrolet Matiz auto.

Good news is that it is easy to manoeuvre in and around town where parking is a doddle thanks to it’s compact dimensions and exceptionally tight turning circle. On the open road, it handles safely, but it’s not much fun. Other lightweight, budget runabouts like the Perodua Kelisa and Daihatsu Charade, Ford Ka or Citroen C1 are more enjoyable to nip about in.
