Thanks to being longer (by 45mm) and wider (+24mm) than before, with shorter overhangs (-5mm), a slightly lower roofline (-16mm) and extended wheelbase (+45mm), the Hyundai i20’s practicality is better than the model it replaces. That means front seat passengers enjoy more room than ever, thanks in part to the longer bonnet allowing the dashboard to be mounted higher up and the glovebox further forward than before.
Those in the rear will notice generous space too, with excellent legroom and masses of headroom – even for fully grown adults.
As is the fashion for car manufacturers in this day and age the door pockets have been enlarged enough to accommodate larger bottles of water than most would carry; the front’s will accept 1.5-litre vessels and the rears 1.0-litre cartons.
Will it fit in my garage?
The i20 isn’t a large car and its handling means it’s among the easier cars of this type to park. It’ll fit in most garages and parking spaces, and has a relatively small turning circle as well.
Acoustic parking sensors at either end of the car are available on Premium trim and up.
Will my luggage fit?
Boot space has been increased over the old car, by 10%, from 295 litres to 326 litres in the latest i20 with all seats in place. Clever design and packaging means the rear bench can be folded completely flat, extending this area to a sizeable 1,042 litres.
The Hyundai i20 scored four stars back in 2015 when it was crash tested by Euro NCAP. At the time, all models came with six airbags; one driver, one passenger airbag plus front seat side and curtain bags as well.
Same goes for electronic stability control, ABS, an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and doors that automatically unlock in the event of an accident are fitted as standard across the range. All come with seatbelt pre-tensioners throughout the cabin while the outer rear seats are fitted with Isofix points. A seatbelt reminder system serves all occupants.
A lane departure warning system, which audibly notifies you if you stray past your designated lane markings on the road, rear parking sensors, front fog lights and cruise control with a speed limiter function are fitted from SE models upwards.

Euro NCAP Rating – 4 stars
The Hyundai i20 Hatchback (15-20) was tested by Euro NCAP in 2015 and was awarded a 4 star overall rating.
This overall rating is calculated from the following individual ratings:
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP.
These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
