Should you buy one?

If you want a plug-in hybrid but need seven seats, it’s well worth considering. Although that’s partially because there are so few of the breed, it’s also much cheaper than the Volvo XC90 Recharge and arguably a bit nicer inside than the Kia Sorento.

However, the Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is a little bit cheaper to buy and comes with a longer seven-year warranty giving it the nod from us. Even so, we can see the argument for either car.

What we like

The fact it combines a plug-in hybrid powertrain with seven seats at all is worth shouting about, and it’s pretty spacious, too. It’s a relaxed motorway cruiser that’s quiet when not being pushed and handles in a tidy if not particularly exciting way. Low BIK rates and decent efficiency also impress.

What we don’t like

We found the engine a little gravelly when pushed and it’s not the comfiest large SUV, either. You’ll also find plenty of rivals with plusher interiors and stronger performance, too.
