Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 22 - 24 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

Depreciation is quite heavy, the V8 guzzles fuel at an alarming rate if you get carried away, and it’s not cheap to insure or service, but then you wouldn’t buy a big Jag as a thrifty little runabout would you?

XK8 is a polluting model. With an average of 295 g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are high for a sports convertible. It’s worth noting that the line-up does not feature any diesel models, which typically produce less carbon dioxide than petrol engines with similar power outputs. The range is quite thirsty, averaging 29 mpg.

It’s been around for a while now, so it’s all well proven. Conventional wisdom says you might be better served by a German marque but reliability surveys don’t support this. Enjoy buying British.
